Early morning, we journey to the region of the "Pueblo Mágico" (Magical Town) of Papantla, a pre-Hispanic land where the Spanish discovered vanilla in the 16th century. After a delectable regional meal upon arrival in Papantla will immerse ourselves in ancient customs, the Totonac elders will welcome us into their huts, purifying us with incense as we are accepted into their community of pre-Hispanic Totonac culture. Then, we head to the town center for a brief local welcome. The afternoon is free, and we will check into our accommodations. Overnight: Papantla (Veracruz)

Today, we will visit the magnificent archaeological site of El Tajin, a former ceremonial center of the Totonac civilization, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Site. El Tajin reached its peak between the early 9th and 13th centuries, becoming the most significant site in northeastern Mesoamerica after the decline of the Teotihuacan Empire. Its cultural influence extended throughout the Gulf region, even reaching the Maya area and the central Mexican highlands. The site's architecture is unparalleled in Mesoamerica, characterized by intricately carved column reliefs and friezes. The Pyramid of the Niches, considered a masterpiece of ancient Mexican and American architecture, showcases the astronomical and symbolic significance of the structures. El Tajin stands as a vivid testament to the grandeur and importance of Mexico's pre-Hispanic cultures. Later, we'll visit a sprawling vanilla plantation to unveil the secrets of its cultivation. A sumptuous Totonac meal, prepared by the renowned "smoke-cookers" using ancient recipes, awaits us. You'll even have the chance to participate in the cooking process.
